Fulfilling Educational Needs

Welcome to the online home of the Heritage Hawks. Heritage Elementary serves transitional kindergarten through sixth grade students in the Tulare City School District. We challenge our students with a rigorous curriculum in a safe and caring environment, ensuring that each student has the tools and materials necessary to reach his or her academic goals.

We invite you to get to know our school better, from its numerous opportunities for parental involvement to our many events and noteworthy accomplishments. For more information on our district services, please visit our district site. Our teachers and staff members are among the best around, and their doors are always open to parents. Take some time to look around. We think you’ll like what you see.

A Message from Our Principal

Hawk Students and Families,

Are you ready for fun? I hope so, because we are going to do everything in our power to make your children want to come to school! School attendance is very important. We want your children here each and every day. When children miss a day or a portion of a day, it makes it challenging for them to come back and try to determine what they missed. Children rely on their friends to be here each day. When students are absent from school, they misses much more than academics. So last year, we focused our fun on Fridays! We danced on the stage to blaring music, hula-hooped our way across the grass, and played fun games with friends in the quad.

The 2017-2018 school year is going to again have fun Fridays! But this year, we are rolling that out in some way each day of the week. These options are available for all second through sixth grade students during their respective lunch times. In addition, the playground remains open offering students various lunchtime options:

  • Marvelous Monday: board games, make a grid, and grid ball
  • Technology Tuesday: library and computer lab open
  • Walking Wednesday: walk the quad for a healthy day, make a grid, and grid ball
  • Throwback Thursday: coloring books, crayon tub, sidewalk chalk, make a grid, and grid ball
  • Fantastic Friday: dancing to music, hula hooping, ice cream sales, make a grid, and grid ball

Fun is not all we’re providing. Teachers are working hard preparing classrooms for your children. They are actively engaged in learning new strategies and techniques to educate your children. We are going to continue learning about growth mindset and understand more about why a fixed mindset is so limiting, physically, academically, emotionally, and in other ways. One thing we are going to focus on all year long is the power of yet. When students say they can’t do something, we’re going to remind them that they simply can’t do it yet!

I am also excited to share that we will introduce AVID elementary in our sixth grade classrooms during the 2017-2018 school year. Each year we will add a new grade level until we are all AVID elementary classrooms. Sixth graders will be AVID elementary students this year, and they will learn about college and career readiness. Last but not least, we have some wonderful learning experiences prepared for your children, including fabulous field trip excursions. Any parents who would like to join us for these learning adventures must be fingerprinted. To find out more about this or to contact us for any reason, please do not hesitate to call us at 559-685-7360.

It’s going to be a great year!
